Ingredients

  • 7-8 fresh apples,
  • 1 cup water
  • 1-2 Tbsp AOOC Cinnamon Pear Balsamic, Red Apple Balsamic, or Gravenstein Apple Balsamic
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Optional: 1-2 Tbsp honey or maple syrup (for added sweetness)

Instructions

      1. Prepare the Apples:
        – Peel the apples using a paring knife or vegetable peeler.
        – Core and dice the apples into even 1-1½-inch chunks.
      2. Cook the Apples:
        – Place the diced apples into the crock pot.
        – Stir in the AOOC Balsamic, ground cinnamon, and water. If you prefer a sweeter applesauce, add honey or maple syrup to taste.
        – Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 7 hours or on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours, until the apples are very soft and easily mashable.
      3. Blend or Mash:
        – For a chunky texture, use a potato masher to mash the apples directly in the crock pot.
        – For a smoother consistency, use an immersion blender to blend the apples until smooth.
      4. Cool and Store:
        – Allow the applesauce to cool before transferring it to mason jars or airtight storage containers.
      5. Serve and Enjoy:
        – Enjoy the applesauce warm or chilled. It’s perfect as a side dish, a topping for oatmeal, or a delicious snack on its own!

Notes

Instructions for adding sweetener:

  • Honey: Start with 2-3 tablespoons and adjust to taste. Honey adds natural sweetness and complements the balsamic vinegar's rich flavor.
  • Sugar: Begin with 2 tablespoons of sugar, tasting as you go. You can add more if you'd like it sweeter, up to about ¼ cup for a more pronounced sweetness.
  • Add the sweetener during the cooking process after the apples have softened to allow it to dissolve evenly. Adjust based on how sweet you prefer your applesauce!
